On my Pontiac, I once had to replace all rubber parts in my brake system, the calipers, the master cylinder, and I don't remember what else, because someone poured oil in the brake fluid reservoir. The last place the car had gone was to the dealer for some work, and while it was there anyway I had them do an oil change. They tried to blame the mess on the Exxon I had change my oil three months before it went to the dealer, which I believe was four months before the problem showed up. Those Exxon guys had a good rapport going with my stepfather and me for years, and I trusted them. They said a thing like that would show up fairly quickly. Also, I have a friend who used to be a mechanic and said he couldn’t keep working for a dealership because he couldn’t screw people over like they wanted him to. Any dealership mechanics on here who want to defend their position? I’m currently trying to decide if I trust my local Nissan dealer or not – I’d like to, since they’re actually cheaper than the local specialty Nissan shop. I’ve got a pretty good relationship going with the parts guys, who all know me by name and know what I drive and give me good prices. But it’s hard to get over what past experience has shown me and trust the shop.
